Learn about the German food heritage: of early Pennsylvania with upcoming programs at Newlin Grist Mill, 219 Cheyney Road, Glen Mills. On Saturday, June 10, the site will host a lecture by culinary historian Dr. William Woys Weaver, along with a cooking demonstration by food-ways historian Dr. Clarissa Dillon. Weaver's talk, "Foods of the Pennsylvania Dutch, 1700-1850," will take place at 4 p.m. in the site's Log Cabin. In it, he will cover the complex cultural and culinary themes that have evolved into a distinctive regional food identity. As an internationally known food historian and author, Weaver has studied and written extensively about the German influence on Pennsylvania food-ways. The cost for the talk is $5 for Newlin Grist Mill members, $10 for nonmembers. Pre-registration is suggested. That same day, attendees can visit the site's newly restored Trimble House kitchen between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., for an open-hearth cooking demonstration. Dillon will be preparing historical recipes, translated from German, that reflect the cuisine of early German-Americans in 18th-century Pennsylvania. Delco Day 8: hosted by Delco Live, is slated for Saturday, June 10 at JT Brewski's, 510 Oak Ave., Secane. The 12-hour event will go from 2 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. This year's event is sponsored by BHCU Credit Union. Proceeds will also benefit The HEADstrong Foundation, a Delaware County born and based charity that provides free housing to cancer patients seeking treatment in the tri-state area.Admission is $6.10 at the door. Home Brewers and Beer Lovers: in the Delaware Valley are invited to become a member of the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation in Edgmont Township to attend an in-depth Colonial brewing workshop on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Master Colonial brewer Michael Carver will be sharing his extensive knowledge of 18th-century beer production. The Delco Cruisers: will hold its annual car show Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road, Upper Providence Township. Everyone is invited for food, music, trophies and fun for the entire family. The rain date is Sunday, June 25. To display a car at the show, there is a $20 car registration fee. Haverford Township Parks and Recreation: announces Anne's Purple for a Purpose Race Against Pancreatic Cancer 5K Run and Walk. It will be Wednesday June 14 at the Haverford Reserve Community Recreation Environmental Center, 9000 Parkview Drive. The 5K registration fee is $35 and includes T-shirts, refreshments and awards. The Marple Township Police Department: and Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer will present Senior Fraud Forum, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 at Surrey Senior Services, 505 Parkway Drive, Broomall. No registration is required. The forum's presenter will be Detective Edward Rosen of the DA's office. Participants will receive information on reducing risk of fraud, use of homeowner's fraud insurance, identity theft, credit/debit card skimmers, internet fraud and phishing, grandparent scams, lottery scams, government scams and romance scams. This is a lunch and learn event where people can reserve a lunch by calling 610-446-2070.

MusicMan Academy in Drexel Hill: is now registering young band and string musicians for its flagship program, MusicMan Camp, a comprehensive summer music experience now in its 11th year. The two-week camp, open to all children, features large ensemble experiences, daily lessons catering to each student's skill level, and a wide-ranging exploration of music, including specialized workshops and master classes taught by professional musicians. Camp sessions will be held June 20-23 and June 26-30 at Drexel Hill Middle School, 3001 State Rd., Drexel Hill. Children do not have to reside in Upper Darby Township to attend. Campers will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from experienced teaching artists and professional musicians, including renowned trumpet player Al Chez from David Letterman's "Late Night" Band and Tower of Power; "Nashville's Best Fiddler" Ryan Joseph, featured with country star Alan Jackson; and master cellist of the former Philly Pops, Glenn Fischbach. Prospect Park will kick off its summer concerts: in the park with the Chatter Band, 7-10 p.m. Thursday, June 15 in Park Square. Everyone is welcome with eats and treats by Zac's and Kona Ice food trucks. Prospect Park will hold its annual fireworks display, hosted by the Prospect Park Fourth of July Association, 6-10 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at Witmer Field, 930 Fourth Ave.

A crab feast: featuring all-you-can-eat steamed crabs, barbecue chicken, hot dogs, mac and cheese, baked beans, corn on the cob, cornbread and dessert will be held, 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Ballroom at Bethel Fire house, 3737 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley. Sponsored by the Upper Chichester Library, the $65 ticket for this third annual crab feast fundraiser can only be purchased at the library, 3374 Chichester Ave., Boothwyn, either by cash or credit/debit card. The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge: in Tinicum Township will host free family fishing days, noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 17 and Thursday, Aug. 10 at the site, 8601 Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia. No fishing license is required. Volunteers will help visitors hook their first fish. Rods and bait will be available for loan or visitors can bring their own. All ages are welcome. The County of Delaware Services Office of Services for the Aging: (COSA), in collaboration with the state Department of Aging, will virtually offer the nationally recognized Diabetes Self-Management Program for those age 60 and older who either have diabetes, prediabetes, or care for someone with diabetes. The program will be held via Zoom, on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon through June 22. The American Diabetes Association identifies this program as meeting the Diabetes Support Initiative criteria for support programming. Program costs are covered by COSA, so the program is free. Nar-Anon Family Group: Courage to Live meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Brookhaven Municipal Center, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven. All those affected by a loved one's addiction are welcome. The meeting is wheelchair accessible.

Senior Lift: a nonprofit organization that has been teaching technology skills to seniors for 14 years, is offering free technology training classes at Neumann University. Classes include introductory sessions in smartphone basics, computer basics, Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows 11, ordering online, Google Drive, social media, and basic technology terms and symbols. Sessions end on June 28. Classes are scheduled on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. in room 110. The Briarcliffe Senior Travel Club is planning:

• A trip to Caesars Casino in Atlantic City on Thursday, Aug. 24 to see the show, "Dance to the Movies," starring "Dancing With The Stars" celebrity professionals, "So You Think You Can Dance" top finalist, "America's Got Talent" aerialist, and singing stars from "American Idol" and "The Voice". The show is at 3:30 p.m. and there will be time for slot play and a $25 voucher to play. Cost is $75, and a $25 deposit is due by July 11 to hold a seat.

• A trip to the Tropicana Casino to see a "Doo Wop Christmas" starring the Doo Wop Project on Nov. 30. Celebrate the sounds of the season with this uplifting and energized performance. The Doo Wop Project has appeared on public television. Cost is $75, with $25 back for slot play. A deposit of $25 is due at time of booking and the balance is due by Oct. 30.

• A trip to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg in Tennessee and Winchester, Virginia, is available, June 25 to July 1. The cost of the seven days, six nights trip is $1,999 single; $1,579 double; and $599 child. Price include deluxe motor coach transportation, deluxe accommodations at Holiday Inn Express in Wytheville, Virginia; Inn on the River Pigeon Forge in Tennessee; and the Fairfield Inn in Winchester, Virginia. St Pius X Over 50 Travel club in Broomall: is running a trip to see "Grease" at Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, Maryland, on Wednesday, June 7. The bus will leave St. Pius X Church at 8:30 a.m. and arrive at the dinner theater at 11 a.m. to enjoy a lavish luncheon buffet, followed by Grease at 12:30 p.m. Bus will depart for home at 3 p.m. and is due to arrive back at St. Pius X at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $156. Delaware County Victim Assistance Center: has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and to their significant others since 1974. The nonprofit depends on the support of volunteers to assist meeting the needs of clients 24 hours a day. Services to victims include hospital/police interview accompaniment, and telephone crisis intervention. Volunteers receive a 40-hour training to prepare them for their responsibilities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift. Delaware County Victim Assistance Center: also offers free and confidential counseling in person and through a 24-hour hotline to victims of sexual assault. The agency provides medical, police and court accompaniment. It also facilitates support groups for adult survivors of sexual abuse, adult rape survivors, and teen survivors of sexual assault.
